CAVAILLÉ-COLL OPUS LIST

Derived from Opus List prepared by Gilbert Huybens for the ISO

Introduction

This database is derived from the published list prepared by Gilbert Huybens for the International Society of Organbuilders (1985). Mr. Huyben's list, in turn, was derived from publications by C. and E. CavaillEColl, Charles Mutin, and especially a hand-written copy of the Grand Livre Noire de Commandes (Black Main Order Book) held by predecessors of the Mutin / CavaillEColl firm, as written down by the Belgian organ scholar Dom Kreps. See the links below for more detail on Mr. Huyben's work.

Of the 1382 opus numbers referenced in the Grand Livere Noir de Commandes, Krep's hand written copy only includes the first 704 opus numbers (where 700 - 704 were for organs completed by Mutin). It therefore remains a scholarly mystery where the original Livre Noir is located. Retrieval of this missing volume will provide a comprehensive listing of the organs built by the CavaillEColl firm under Charles Mutin and later successors. Any information leading to the re-discovery of the Livre Noir would be appreciated!
